Somayeh Farid, Women’s Rights and Campaign Activist, Sentenced to Two Year Mandatory Prison

Change for Equality: Somayeh Farid, Women’s Rights and Campaign Activist has been sentenced to a two year mandatory prison sentence, by Branch 28 of the Revolutionary Courts. The Sentence was issued by Judge Mogheyseh. According to reports, Farid was arrested on March 16, 2010 while following up the situation of her husband in prison. She was released a few weeks later on March 28, 2010 on a bail order of 60 Million Tomans (roughly $60,000). Somayeh Farid who is also an active member of the Alumni Association of (ADVAR) intends to appeal the ruling.
