Arrest Warrant Issued for Kaveh Rezai, Student Activist and Member of the Campaign

According to AZADNA, the arrest warrant for Kaveh Rezai a former member of the Central Council of the Islamic Student Association of Bu Ali Sina University in Hamedan, has been issued. According to the report, security officials have obtained this warrant without having observed the appropriate legal process for obtaining arrest warrants. Kaveh Rezaie who has been expelled from university for his social activities, was sentenced to 18 months in prison in a ruling by the courts. Despite having presented the courts with a request for an appeal, this ruling has been implemented without having gone through the appeals process, and an arrest warrant for Kaveh has been issued.

In his weblog, Kaveh Rezaie has expressed surprise about the developments with respect to his case. Further the report by Azadna points to the fact that Kaveh spent 9 days in detention in February 2009, but was released on a 50 Million Toman bail order (roughly $50,000).

Kaveh Rezaie who is also a member of the One Million Signatures Campaign was expelled from university in the fall of 2008 for political activities and he is currently serving his mandatory military duty.
