Shiva Nazarahari Released

Shiva Nazarahari, a student and human rights activist and a member of the Campaign, who was arrested in the aftermath of the disputed presidential elections was released from prison on September 23. Shiva Nazarhari was greeted by her friends and family upon her release. This activists was arrested two days after the disputed presidential elections by security forces at her place of work. Security officials searched her home and seized property prior to her arrest. During her imprisonment at Section 209 of Evin Priosn, managed by the Ministry of Intelligence, which lasted more than three months, Shiva Nazarahari endured harsh and long interrogation sessions and except for a few occasions was denied the right to contact her family by telephone or to visit with them.

Azar Mansouri Arrested

Azar Mansouri, a high ranking member of the Participation Front, a reformist political party, was arrested on September 23, 2009 in the home of her sister. It has been reported that Azar Mansouri was arrested upon returning from her sister’s home in Varamin.

Hengameh Shahidi’s Health Declining

According to a report by HERANA, the emotional and physical condition of Hengameh Shahidi, an imprisoned journalist is on the decline. Hengameh Shahidi was arrested in the aftermath of the disputed presidential elections in Iran. Her health problems have worsened in prison, according to this report, requiring serious medication. Shahidi is a journalist and a member of the Etemad Melli political party. She is currently a PhD student at SOAS, studying human rights. In the presidential elections, she served as an advisor on women’s affairs to Mehdi Karoubi. She was arrested on June 30, 2009 and remains in prison.
