Fatemeh Masjedi and Maryam Bigdeli Released from Prison in Qom

Fatemeh Masjedi and Maryam Bigdeli members of the One Million Signatures Campaign in Qom, who were arrested on the 7th of May in Qom, were released on the 19th of May. These two women’s rights activists were arrested along with QolamReza Salami, by the local office of the Intellegence Ministry in Qom.

Fatemeh Masjedi and Maryam Bigdeli have worked on women’s rights and women’s empowerment for years. The two were recently involved in an effort to defend a young woman who was faced with a potential attempt on her life (honor killing) and as a result got into a verbal scuttle with some influential figures in the city of Qom. Fatemeh Masjedi and Maryam Bigdeli are also members of the One Million Signatures Campaign in Qom. QolamReza Salami is a researcher and editor. He continues to remain in prison.
