Defenders of Human Rights Center website:

Jinous Sobhani, former secretary for the offices of the Defenders of Human Rights Center (DHRC) and the Mine-Clearing Collaboration (MCCC) Campaign, before their closure, was freed on Wednesday, March 11, on 70 million tomans bail. Ms. Sobhani was arrested and had been detained by authorities since January 14 of this year.

Ms. Sobhani was arrested not long after authorities had illegally shut down DHRC’s office on December 21. Soon after, tax authorities began investigating the law office of Shirin Ebadi, Nobel Peace Laureate and head of the DHRC. Under this pretence, her office was searched and several files and office items were confiscated.

These actions were met with widespread criticism and protest from prominent figures and human rights activists inside and outside Iran.
In a meeting with Ms. Ebadi in early March, Javier Solana, the EU’s High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, expressed his concern over the closure of the DHRC’s office and Ms. Sobhani’s detainment.

Ms. Ebadi, along with fellow members and attorneys of the DHRC, visited Ms. Sobhani shortly after her release.
