Change for Equality: In honor of the 12th of June (22nd of Khordaad), the day of Solidarity for Iranian Women, the first podcast of "Change for Equality" the official site of the One Million Signatures Campaign was produced and broadcast. This podcast includes segments about the day of solidarity in June 2005, where women’s rights activists gathered in front of Tehran University in a peaceful protest objecting to laws that discriminate against women. It also includes segments about a similar peaceful protest in Haft-e Tir square on June 12th, 2006, which ended in violence and the arrest of over 70 protesters. Skits about people’s impression of the protest and the demands of the protesters have been included, with the intent to provide humor. Additionally, an interview with one women’s rights activist who explains about developments on June 12th 2006 and why she turned out in Haft-e Tir square in support of the protest and its demands, are part of this podcast.

The podcast, or the use of voice files broadcast through the net, is yet another innovation utilized by the members of the Campaign to get out their message of equality to the general public. Increasingly, Campaign activists have had to rely on the use of simple and appealing formats, including the use of visual arts like video, flashes, and theater, to express their demands and connect with the general public. These innovations are especially important given the increased pressure placed on Campaign activists, in the form of repeated blocking of their websites and arrests of those who engage in face to face discussions with the public with the aim of collecting signatures in support of the Campaign’s petition.

Future podcasts will continue to deal with issues of importance to the Campaign and will focus both on the demands of Campaign activists as well as strategies utilized to push forth these demands. We hope to be able to provide occasional podcasts in English in the future as well.
