Latest Update on Case of Hana Abdi and Ronak Safazadeh

AdvarNews: Dr. Mohammad Sharif, the lawyer representing Hana Abdi and Ronak Safazadeh has provided the latest information on the case of these two women’s rights activists, in an interview with AdvarNews.

In relation to the case pending against Ms. Abdi, Mr. Sharif explained: "Tuesday of last week, there was a court hearing in relation to the charges against Ms. Hana Abdi, which was held in the second branch of the Revolutionary Courts in Sanandaj. Ms. Abdi was charged with "gathering and collusion with intent to commit a crime" in relation to Article 610 of the Islamic Penal Code.

Sharif explained further that: "he provided the last defense of his client during this court session and accordingly the courts should provide a decision in this case within the week."

In relation to the case brought forth against Ronak Safazadeh, Mr. Sharif explained: "the courts have fixed a date to review the file and after this review period a second trial will be heard, in relation to this case." Dr. Sharif explained further that Ronak Safazadeh has been charged with "moharebe" or "armed conflict against the state and Islam.

The lawyer representing these two women’s rights activists explained further that: "both my clients remain in the public ward of Sanandaj prison, and I have filed a request with the courts asking for a bail amount to be identified so that the two can be released. But unfortunately despite my repeated objections, the order for temporary detention has been renewed on several occasions and the courts have ignored my repeated objections in this respect.
