Campaign Member, Maziar Samiee Arrested

Change for Equality: Friday November 2, 2007, Maziar Samiee, a student activists and an active member of the One Million Signatures Campaign, was arrested on Tuesday October 30, 2007 along with 7 others during protests at Allameh Tabatabaie University. While 5 of the eight arrested were released within several hours, three remain in detention on the orders of the Information and Security Ministry. Besides, Samiee, Arman Sedaghati and Behnam Sepehrvand, both student activists remain in detention.

The protest on Tuesday, was a joint effort between student groups from several universities. It was intended to protest the continued detention of three student activists, Ehsan Mansouri, Ahmad Ghassaban, and Majid Tavakoli, who remain in prison. The protest was also intended to object to the suspension from university of 31 students at Allameh Tabataie University and the continued closure of student groups.

Maziar Samiee telphoned his family yesterday informing them that he is being held at Section 209 of Evin Prison, which is administered by the Ministry of Information and Security.

Maziar Samiee is a student activist at Allameh Tabatabaie Universiey, who has been suspended from his studies. He is also an active member of the One Million Signatures Campaign and the Men’s Committee.
