Change for Equality: Human Rights First, the New York based, international human rights organization has issued a statement in support of Bahareh Hedayat, a student and women’s rights activist, arrested on 18th of Tir (July 9th) along with 18 other student rights activists. The statement expresses special concern for the situation of Bahareh Hedayat, who is a member of the One Million Signature’s Campaign, as she had previously been issued a suspended sentence of two-years, in relation to her involvement in the 7th of Tir Protest on June 12th, 2006, in defense of women’s rights. Her recent arrest could possibly mean the implementation of her previous sentence. "Ms. Hedayat could face especially harsh treatment because she was convicted on "national security" grounds earlier this year. A member of the One Million Signatures Campaign for women’s equality in Iran, she received a two-year suspended sentence due to her participation in women’s rights rallies," the statement reads.
